A Fantastic EDI Achievement for Wycombe Unity FC
Wycombe Unity FC is proud to have been named joint runners-up for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Award at the Berks & Bucks FA Annual Awards.
The EDI Award recognises individuals and organisations that demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting equality, celebrating diversity and creating inclusive opportunities within football. Being recognised in this category is a significant honour for our young club, especially as we recently celebrated our first anniversary.
Although we did not take home the top prize on this occasion, earning joint runners-up status is a momentous achievement for everyone involved with Wycombe Unity FC. To receive an EDI Award nomination within our first year is a testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of our players, coaches, volunteers and families. Over the past 12 months, they have helped build an inclusive football community where people from all backgrounds can come together and feel welcomed, supported and valued.
Reflecting on the recognition, Coach Shaf Ali said:
“When we founded this club just one year ago, our vision was to create more than just a football team. We wanted to build a family. Our name is our mission: Unity. In a world that can often feel divided, football has the power to bring people together, bridging gaps and creating a community where everyone feels they belong. Seeing our young club recognised on this stage after just one year shows that we are building something truly special, and this is only the beginning as we look to expand our squads.”
Being named joint runners-up for the EDI Award reflects the values at the heart of Wycombe Unity FC. We remain committed to breaking down barriers, bringing communities together and ensuring that everyone can participate in and enjoy football.
We would like to congratulate all the winners and finalists recognised during the evening and extend our thanks to Berks & Bucks FA for hosting such a fantastic event.
For a club only one year old, this recognition felt like an incredible win, and an exciting sign of what lies ahead.
